Uber entered Kathmandu Valley in June 2026 with car and motorcycle categories, but its coverage is new and local supply can vary. Pathao has the broadest established Nepal presence and operates rides in multiple cities, although its official car service remains concentrated in Kathmandu. A Nepal or Bangladesh phone number is normally needed to register for Pathao, so buy a local SIM before depending on it. inDrive and Yango are strong alternatives and can often register foreign numbers.
inDrive lets passengers propose a fare, while Yango shows a set app price; compare the total, pickup time and vehicle type before choosing. Availability, pricing and vehicle categories change by city. At Tribhuvan International Airport, use the in-app pickup instructions and confirm the plate, driver and destination before boarding. Keep the ride inside the platform and do not accept a driver request to cancel.
Cash remains the safest payment fallback. Motorcycle taxis can be faster in traffic, but passenger helmets are inconsistent and road conditions are hazardous. Choose a car after dark or whenever a proper helmet is unavailable. These are urban apps, not a substitute for a tourist bus, domestic flight or vetted driver between cities.
Uber does not operate nationwide, and Tootle is omitted because current local reporting says it is no longer operating despite old store listings.
