Bento is a travel guide, not an account-based service. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no profile, no password and no contact details for us to hold. This page describes the little that is collected, and by what.
Bento's iPhone and Android apps include guides that work offline. When online, they request app updates from Expo and guide updates from Bento's content host on Vercel. These services receive ordinary connection metadata, including an IP address. Starting with version 1.2.0, PostHog processes usage events such as guide views, search result counts and recommendation clicks, using an anonymous installation identifier. Sentry processes crash reports, selected diagnostic logs and performance measurements. Reports include app and operating system versions, device model, language and content or update versions. Raw search text, account details and advertising identifiers are not collected as usage events. PostHog automatically records app sessions as a screen recording, which shows the screen as displayed, including any text you type; recordings are retained for 30 days. PostHog may derive an approximate location from your IP address for analytics.
Two taps leave the app. Opening an app listing hands the link to the App Store or Google Play, and opening a website loads it in the phone's in-app browser. From that point the destination's own privacy policy applies, not ours.
bento.travel measures which pages get read, using PostHog in its cookieless mode. No cookies are set for analytics, no profile is built and no session is recorded. Each event carries the page path with any query string and fragment removed, the page's language, and which country or category the page is about. Typed text is masked.
The site is hosted on Vercel, which records its own privacy-preserving traffic and performance measurements and, like any web host, receives the requests your browser makes.
There is no advertising on the site and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers. Links to Guac, our own eSIM app, and to app store listings carry a plain source label so we can tell how many readers found something useful, and no identifier travels with them.
Mobile usage analytics, crash reporting and sampled session recordings run automatically. Contact us with questions about collected data. The website uses separate cookieless analytics served from bento.travel; blocking JavaScript stops that measurement and the site remains usable.
Bento is a general-audience travel guide and is not directed at children.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes to what the apps collect would ship alongside an app update.
