AT Mobile is the official planner and live-service app for Auckland. Auckland buses, trains and most ferries accept an AT HOP card or supported contactless Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay and American Express cards and phone wallets. Use one payment method per traveler and tag on and off with that same card or device. Some services, including Fullers360 Waiheke and tourist ferries, sit outside ordinary contactless rules.
In Wellington, Metlink provides planning and disruption information. Contactless bank-card payment launched across Metlink buses and trains in April 2026, but it buys a single adult fare and does not provide every Snapper concession, pass or transfer benefit. Use one card per person and keep Snapper when your fare product requires it. Christchurch began the Motu Move national ticketing rollout in late 2025 and accepts contactless payment on the Metro network.
The national system is still rolling out and does not create one universal journey-planning app. Transit App covers supported agencies in multiple regions and is a useful secondary planner, while local official sites remain authoritative for disruptions and fare rules. Cash acceptance and change policies differ by network. Before moving between regions, check the local operator rather than assuming a card or pass transfers.
