No Paraguay-specific wallet is worth installing for an ordinary short visit.

Tigo Money is widely used locally, but its current rules require an active line, age 18 or over and one wallet per Paraguayan identity card. Registration requires presenting or digitally registering that Paraguayan document, so a tourist should not treat it as an arrival payment tool. Paraguay's interoperable QR standard organizes domestic providers, but it does not make every foreign banking or wallet app compatible with local merchant codes. Use physical Visa or Mastercard cards at larger urban businesses and carry guaraní cash for buses outside the metropolitan electronic-fare network, markets, tips, small shops and rural services.

Bring two cards on different networks because acceptance, contactless terminals and foreign-card authorization vary. Use a bank-affiliated cash machine inside a controlled location during daylight, shield the PIN, reject help from strangers and read the complete fee and withdrawal-limit screen. Ask about any card surcharge before committing and confirm the final amount in guaraní. Use an established bank or licensed exchange office rather than a street exchanger, and do not transfer money to an unfamiliar personal account after receiving changed details through WhatsApp.
