How to Pay in Czech Republic

No Czech payment app is necessary for an ordinary short-stay visitor, and Revolut is not an essential country app.

Bring a physical Visa or Mastercard that does not impose punitive foreign transaction charges, a second card from a different issuer and some Czech crown cash. The Czech Republic uses CZK, not the euro. Some tourist businesses accept euros but choose their own rate and usually return change in crowns. At a terminal or ATM, choose CZK and decline conversion into your home currency so your own issuer handles the exchange.

Card acceptance is broad in cities, but it is not universal, especially at small cash-only venues, markets, rural businesses, public toilets or temporary outages. Ask before ordering when the payment method is unclear. For cash, prefer an ATM attached to a recognizable bank, read the operator fee before confirming and cancel if the charge or proposed withdrawal is unreasonable. A travel card cannot remove a fee imposed by the ATM owner.

Avoid exchanging money with anyone on the street. Official tourism guidance says a consumer can reverse an unfavorable bureau exchange within three hours at the same office during opening hours, up to the statutory amount, so keep the receipt. Check the displayed rate and final crown amount before handing over cash. Keep the physical card available for hotels and rental deposits because a phone wallet or virtual card may not satisfy the merchant.

Carry issuer blocking numbers separately from the wallet and never allow a stranger to operate the ATM for you.
