Lithuania uses euros and cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and shops, but carry some cash for markets and remote stops. Bolt has the broadest practical ride coverage; Uber now operates in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys, not Vilnius alone. Urban tickets are city-specific. In Vilnius, a contactless card buys one full-price 60-minute ticket, while the new JUDU app replaced m.Ticket and m.Parking in July 2026. Kaunas and Klaipėda have separate systems. Use LTG Link for trains and Autobusų bilietai for many intercity buses. Drivers need daytime lights, winter tyres from 10 November through 31 March, and separate ferry, Neringa entry and parking payments for the Curonian Spit. Enable Lithuania's Cell Broadcast alerts, use LT72 as a supplementary official tool and call 112 in an emergency.
A short-stay traveler does not need a Lithuanian banking or payment app.
Lithuania uses the euro, and the national tourism authority says the vast majority of shopping centres, restaurants, hotels and other commercial businesses accept cards and contactless payment. Bring a physical Visa or Mastercard with a known PIN, a second payment method and modest euro cash. Cash is still useful at markets, fairs, rural homestays, remote attractions or during a terminal outage. Revolut is licensed in Lithuania and popular with residents, but that does not make opening an account a Lithuanian arrival requirement.
Wise is similarly useful only if the traveler already has or independently wants an eligible multi-currency account. Both can involve home-country eligibility, identity checks, limits and fees. Do not present either as essential. When a terminal or ATM offers conversion into the card's home currency, choose euros unless you have compared and deliberately accepted the quoted rate.
The Bank of Lithuania explains that payment in the local currency normally lets the card issuer perform the conversion and that an ATM operator fee must be displayed before approval. Prefer a bank-branded ATM in a secure location, inspect it, cover the PIN and read every fee and amount before continuing. Independent Euronet ATMs may add a charge, and the traveler's own issuer can still apply foreign-exchange, cash-advance or withdrawal fees. Do not rely only on a phone wallet because transit validators, rental deposits or an offline terminal may require the physical card and PIN.
City transit rules differ: ordinary contactless tapping buys a specific ticket in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda, not a nationwide transit pass.
