Swipe by BML is the only local wallet specifically positioned for visitors. Foreigners without a Bank of Maldives account can apply, complete identity and liveness checks, and top up MVR or USD wallets with an eligible international debit, credit or prepaid card. It is promising but still optional: activation is subject to the bank's checks, features and limits can differ for non-residents, merchant acceptance is not universal, and card funding can include exchange conversion and a disclosed markup.
Load only what you expect to spend. The terms say a card-funded withdrawal back to the same card normally requires a customer-service request within 30 days and cannot exceed the original top-up; later withdrawals are generally unavailable. Check the recipient and amount before approving any QR payment and never share an OTP. Ordinary BML Mobile Banking and DhiraaguPay are local account products, not sensible default downloads for a short visitor.
