Public transportation apps, curated for travelers visiting Mexico.
Mexico has no national urban-transit app or fare card. App CDMX is useful only in Mexico City and its metropolitan network, where the mobility section covers Metro, Metrobús, Cablebús, trolleybus, the interurban train, Mexibús, Mexicable and other participating services. The current app provides routes, schedules, disruption alerts and local safety tools. Its account and payment features are not dependable for every foreign visitor. A current 2026 Play Store review reports that MI-card recharge required a Mexican mobile number, while current iPhone reviews report missing virtual-card behavior. Treat those reports as a warning about traveler onboarding rather than a guarantee for every device. The physical Movilidad Integrada card remains the safest common credential across many capital systems and can be bought or recharged with cash at official points. Direct bank-card or phone payment is not universal across every gate, bus and city. Keep pesos, validate as required and do not load more value than needed. Outside the capital, identify the actual municipal operator and local card or ticket rule. Moovit can display routes, but it does not issue national fares or add enough benefit beside Google Maps and the official city app. Leave time for crowding, closures, accessibility gaps and the last service. Keep bags closed and phones secure. With luggage, limited mobility, late hours or an airport connection, a verified taxi, app ride or official transfer may be more practical than a complicated route.
