Transit Apps in Panama

Panama City has two different visitor fare experiences. Metro Lines 1 and 2 accept a contactless Visa or Mastercard directly at labeled gates. Tap the same physical card or the same phone or watch at entry and exit, and use a separate card or device for each passenger. A reusable transit card is still available, but an occasional Metro rider does not need an app to buy or activate it. Tocumen Airport connects to the Line 2 airport branch. A terminal shuttle links T1 and T2 with Aeropuerto station, then riders transfer at Corredor Sur for trains toward San Miguelito and central Panama City. Check the current service hours before relying on it for a late arrival. MiBus buses are different. The official user guide requires a prepaid access card at the bus validator or paid zone. Contactless bank-card entry on the Metro does not mean the same foreign card works on every bus. Buy and load a compatible card before boarding. Google Maps is the best practical planner for Metro and MiBus routes, but scheduled bus times can be optimistic. Verify the route code, direction and stop with the MiBus route map, a station attendant or the driver. MiBus Maps Panamá has a current Android listing but no dependable iPhone equivalent, and repeated recent users report broken or unreliable tracking. Metro de Panamá Oficial has not been updated since 2023 and is unnecessary for contactless travel. Activa Recarga PTY only activates an online top-up already made through supported banking, so it does not solve payment for an ordinary foreign visitor. The Metro is usually more predictable than buses. Guard phones and wallets on crowded vehicles and leave extra time during rain and peak traffic.
