What to know about Ride Hailing in Qatar

Uber is the most familiar visitor app in Doha, but Karwa Taxi is the official metered fleet and the essential airport backup. Qatar's Ministry of Transport listed Uber, Karwa, Badrgo, Aabir, Ryde and several other licensed apps in its updated June 7, 2026 authorization list. For travelers, Uber, Karwa, Badrgo and Ryde are the useful four. All concentrate on Doha, Al Rayyan, Lusail and the route to Hamad International Airport. Uber normally has the strongest app supply but is often more expensive than Karwa's meter. Badrgo and Ryde can be cheaper than Uber, although their fleets are smaller. All have English interfaces or English booking flows and accept foreign numbers without Qatari ID or a local bank account. Uber reliably accepts foreign Visa and Mastercard cards. Karwa supports card and cash, while local-app foreign-card acceptance can vary, so carry Qatari riyals. Hamad International Airport gives Karwa the formal arrivals pickup role. Uber pickup rules have varied, so follow the current in-app pin and use Karwa from the rank if Uber does not offer the terminal. Careem stopped operating in Qatar on February 28, 2023 and should not appear. Outside Doha, Al Rayyan, Lusail, Al Wakrah and Al Khor, driver supply drops quickly. Desert camps, beaches and remote stadium or industrial areas need a prearranged return because getting the outbound app ride does not guarantee a pickup home.

Karwa

Qatar's official government-backed taxi app. Karwa operates the metered taxi fleet you see on the streets, but the app lets you book in advance and track your ride.

Pro tip: Karwa taxis use fixed meters regulated by the government, so there is no surge pricing. A solid backup when Uber or Careem prices spike during events.
