Install 1990 Suwa Seriya and save the numbers separately. The government-backed 1990 service provides free pre-hospital emergency ambulances in every district. Its app can share your location and connect to the 24-hour command center when mobile data is available, but the direct toll-free call to 1990 remains the essential fallback. Call 119 for police and use Sri Lanka Tourism's 1912 hotline for visitor assistance. The Disaster Management Centre publishes official warnings and assistance information; monitor it together with the Department of Meteorology during heavy rain. Monsoon flooding and landslides can close roads and interrupt rail or local transport, so follow official and local instructions instead of relying on an old route screenshot. Save your insurer's emergency line, policy number, accommodation contact, passport copy and medication details offline. In an emergency, state the district, nearest landmark and map coordinates if known, keep the line open and send someone to a visible pickup point when safe. The ambulance app is helpful but depends on battery, data and registration. It does not replace calling 1990. Do not use the emergency ambulance for planned clinic visits or routine transfers.
