What to know about Ride Hailing in Bahrain

Uber and Careem are the two main international ride apps in Bahrain, concentrated in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa, Isa Town and Hamad Town. Careem is usually the cheaper of the two, while Uber can have stronger premium-car supply. Bahrain Taxi is the official licensed-taxi app and can be cheaper than either during surge pricing because the meter follows the national tariff. The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications reported 1,460 taxi vehicles in Bahrain as of July 1, 2026. It also began an Uber Black pilot with licensed operators on June 18, 2026, showing that app products remain regulated rather than open private-driver rides. All three apps have English support, accept foreign numbers and require no Bahraini ID or local bank account for passengers. Uber and Careem normally accept international Visa and Mastercard cards, Apple Pay where enabled and cash on eligible products. Bahrain Taxi card functionality can be less consistent, so carry Bahraini dinars. Bahrain International Airport has an official taxi rank; app collection may use a designated zone, and the metered airport taxi can be cheaper when Uber or Careem demand is high. Because Bahrain is compact, a Manama-area driver may accept trips across much of the island, but supply becomes thinner around the southern oil fields, Sakhir and remote beaches. Bolt and inDrive do not have verified licensed passenger service in Bahrain as of July 2026.
