Dhaka's metro is the easiest public transport for a visitor when its single operating corridor fits the trip. For an occasional journey, buy the ordinary single-journey product at the station instead of assuming that an app is required. Reusable MRT Pass and Rapid Pass cards are better suited to repeated travel. Rapid Pass is the official Android app from the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority for people who already hold one of those physical cards. It can show balance and history through NFC and initiate an online recharge, but the recharge is completed only after tapping the card at an AVM in a metro station. The app is therefore optional and does not replace obtaining or carrying the physical card. No verified iOS version was found. Google Maps can help locate stations and plan the pedestrian portion, but it is not an authoritative live source for every bus or minibus. Dhaka's road transit is fragmented, route names can be confusing and stops may be informal. Ask the accommodation or station staff to verify the route and direction. Carry small-denomination cash for transport that does not use the metro card system and confirm the fare before boarding a CNG or rickshaw without a meter or app. Crowding, traffic, heavy rain, flooding, strikes and security restrictions can interrupt service. Allow a large buffer and keep belongings in front of you. The official travel advice describes poor driving standards and high road risk. Avoid cycle rickshaws on fast main roads where possible, and do not recommend motorcycle transport as a routine tourist shortcut.
