Navigation Apps in Barbados

Google Maps is the best general navigation app for visitors, but do not treat every route, road condition, beach entrance, or business hour as verified. Download the Barbados offline area before travel and save the exact accommodation entrance, Grantley Adams airport, bus terminals, rental office, supermarket, hospital, police station, embassy or consulate, and key meeting points. Ask a host for a dropped pin plus written landmarks because local addressing and property entrances can be ambiguous. Offline maps do not include live traffic, temporary closures, current bus times, or every feature. Traffic drives on the left. Interior roads can be narrow, uneven, poorly lit, and unexpectedly potholed, while app shortcuts may lead onto minor roads that are uncomfortable after dark. The Barbados Revenue Authority says non-resident visitor driving permits were abolished on 15 October 2025 and replaced with a car-rental levy. A visitor still needs a valid driving licence, and the rental operator verifies it. Several older government pages incorrectly retain the former permit process. Use the newer Revenue Authority policy. Mount the phone rather than holding it, never follow navigation onto a flooded, closed, unsigned, or obviously unsuitable road, and favor main routes at night. Strong currents make beach conditions a safety decision, not a map decision. Follow flags, lifeguards, and local warnings. Google Maps can help monitor a taxi trip, but it does not prove that a walking route is safe or well lit.
