Download the Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan or Red Sea area you need before travel, then pin the exact accommodation, airport terminal, railway station, bus office and attraction entrances. A place name alone can be ambiguous, and the road-side pickup point may differ from the public entrance. Share a pin with a driver but compare the plate and route inside the ride app. Google Maps is less dependable for informal public transport, changing microbus routes, pedestrian shortcuts and some newly developed roads.

In Cairo, use the official metro information alongside it rather than treating every transit itinerary as authoritative. At archaeological sites and large resorts, ask staff which gate or meeting point is actually open. Offline maps preserve basic route and place data but not live traffic, temporary closures or all transit updates, so reconnect before a time-critical airport or train journey. Recent local discussions still favor Google Maps overall, while also reporting occasional lane, entrance and arrival-time errors.

Apple Maps is not accurate enough locally to be worth a second install, and specialist driving apps add little value for the typical short-stay visitor.
