What to know about Ride Hailing in Macau

Macau is a licensed-taxi market. Uber returned on February 2, 2026 as a dispatch layer for licensed, metered taxis, not as private-car ride hailing. MAAS PLUS is the renamed Macau Radio Taxi passenger app and remains the main local dispatch alternative. No current public trip-share table shows that either app overwhelmingly dominates. Street ranks still carry a large portion of local taxi demand. Both apps cover the compact Macau Peninsula, Taipa, Cotai and Coloane, but supply is thinner late at night and during major events. Uber offers English, accepts an existing foreign account and normally accepts an international card already saved to it. The taxi meter governs the fare, with any app-displayed amount treated according to the licensed-taxi product. MAAS PLUS offers Chinese and English, but a Macau, Hong Kong or mainland Chinese mobile number is more reliable for SMS and local payment setup. Cash in Macanese patacas or Hong Kong dollars remains the safest fallback. Macau government fare information lists an MOP 8 airport surcharge as of July 2026. Macau International Airport to central Cotai commonly costs about MOP 50 to MOP 90 including ordinary surcharges as of mid-2026. Neither app is reliably cheaper because both dispatch regulated taxis. Grab, Bolt, DiDi and Lyft do not operate consumer ride services in Macau. The service boundary stops at immigration, so a Macau booking cannot carry the passenger across the Hong Kong or mainland China border.
