Find places to eat and drink, curated for travelers visiting New Zealand.
New Zealand does not have one restaurant-booking app that every traveler needs. Many restaurants take bookings directly through their own website or phone, and popular dining rooms in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and resort towns can fill well ahead. First Table is the most distinctive local app to know: participating restaurants release selected off-peak tables, and diners pay a booking fee in exchange for a discount on eligible food. Availability, party-size rules, excluded dishes, drink requirements and cancellation terms are shown for each offer, so read the exact booking rather than assuming every meal receives identical conditions. Its inventory is promotional and limited, not a complete directory of the country's best restaurants. Google Maps and recent local recommendations remain useful for discovery, but verify the venue's own booking link, address and hours before making a special journey. Public-holiday surcharges are common and should be disclosed, while card surcharges can also apply. Ask whether these are included before committing to an expensive set menu. For severe allergies, contact the restaurant directly and describe both the ingredient and cross-contact risk. App labels and customer reviews cannot confirm kitchen procedure. Smaller towns and remote routes may stop serving earlier than expected, particularly on Sundays or holidays. Keep a backup option and reserve dinner before a long drive rather than assuming a late arrival will have open kitchens.
