Install Yango first. It is now the main way to book OTaxi in Oman, with published service in Muscat, Salalah and Sohar and licensed airport operations under the OTaxi system.
Use Yango for ordinary city rides and compare the complete fixed quote before confirming. If it cannot assign a car, switch to OmanTaxi or the signed official taxi channel. At an airport, follow the assigned pickup rather than accepting an unsolicited offer.

ITHCA Group and Yango Group said they completed the acquisition of OTaxi in April 2025. The legacy OTaxi listing remains downloadable, but its March 2026 release note tells passengers to find the full OTaxi experience inside Yango. That makes Yango the sensible first install rather than a generic global app.98
In Muscat, Yango currently shows Economy, Comfort, Van, Premium, Luxury and OFemale classes. Capacity matters. The published Van class carries up to seven passengers, while Economy and OFemale carry up to four. Choose for luggage as well as seats.6
An existing Uber or Careem account doesn't create local coverage. Neither operator's current location directory includes Oman. Use Yango for OTaxi instead of waiting until arrival to discover that a familiar global app has no cars here.1211
Oman's transport ministry announced eight licensed on-demand taxi apps in April 2023, including OTaxi and Tasleem. It described tracked trips, driver communication and a price fixed before departure. A July 2026 government service page still requires smart-app companies to obtain a transport license and document their fare mechanism.15
Keep the request inside the licensed app. The confirmed vehicle, driver, route and quoted price create a record that a casual street negotiation does not. Match the plate before entering and resolve an incorrect charge through that trip record.1
The transport ministry granted two companies licenses to manage taxi service at Omani airports in September 2023. OTaxi was one of them, and the ministry required a fixed price before each trip. Yango now advertises direct trips to and from Muscat International Airport under the OTaxi service.26
Request only after mobile data works and the correct terminal pickup appears. If the app does not assign a car, OmanTaxi publishes an airport pickup service licensed by the ministry, with distance-based pricing and a possible airport booking fee. Muscat Airport also maintains an official taxi area and estimated-fare information.103
Yango's current Oman page names Muscat, Salalah and Sohar. That is documented coverage, not a promise of a nearby driver. Check the exact hotel, airport or industrial-area pin before relying on the app for a fixed departure.6
Salalah Airport gives one unusually specific option: arriving women can book a licensed female driver by selecting Female Taxi in Yango. For a late arrival during the khareef season, keep the airport taxi desk or a confirmed hotel transfer as the second plan because live supply can tighten.4
Yango publishes cash, Visa and Mastercard for Oman. Its support page says a card payment can switch automatically to cash if the card is blocked or lacks funds, and the app notifies both passenger and driver. Keep enough Omani rials for that outcome.67
A card logo does not prove that every foreign-issued card will authorize. Add the intended card before a time-critical trip, verify the method shown on the active booking and do not pay twice if the app already completed an in-app charge.7
If Yango cannot assign a suitable car, use the signed airport taxi channel or ask the hotel to call a licensed taxi. Confirm the complete fare before departure and keep the booking receipt.110
Neither operator currently lists Oman in its published service directory. The local visitor option is OTaxi, now ordered in Yango; do not mistake the legacy OTaxi download for a separate network.
Yango publishes Visa and Mastercard support, and OmanTaxi says it accepts local and international cards. A specific foreign card can still fail authorization, so add it before the first trip and keep Omani rials available.
