Transit Apps in Puerto Rico

Transit is the only app that merits a local public-transport recommendation. Puerto Rico's Integrated Transportation Authority explicitly partners with Transit, and the app's San Juan page covers ATI. It can plan trips and show schedules, alerts, and available live data for Tren Urbano and metropolitan bus services. Replace the old Tren Urbano listing, which presented a rail system as though it were an official app. The train itself has 16 stations in San Juan, Guaynabo, and Bayamón and currently publishes daily operating hours from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. ATI also operates fixed bus routes, including airport links shown by SJU. Public transport can be useful for a flexible traveler in metropolitan San Juan, but it is not a practical island-wide network and it does not directly solve travel to most beaches, El Yunque, the west, or rural accommodation. Recent riders report that buses can be infrequent, schedules and live positions are not always reliable, and temporary fare arrangements have changed during payment-system work. Check the current ATI fare and service notice instead of relying on an old app caption or traveler post. Leave extra time, verify the direction and stop with staff, keep valuables discreet, and have an Uber or taxi fallback after dark or for a flight. Transit can cache some schedule data, but live arrivals and rerouting require connectivity. SJU's bus stops are on the departures level, and the airport publishes current route numbers. Travelers with accessibility needs should verify the exact station, vehicle, and paratransit eligibility directly with ATI before depending on a route.
