What to know about Intercity Transport in United Arab Emirates

Intercity travel is still mostly a route-specific mix of buses, domestic flights, cars and one new passenger train corridor. Etihad Rail began its first paid passenger service on June 30, 2026 between Fujairah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi. The official app and website sell that current route. Do not mistake announced expansion dates for live service: Dubai and Al Dhaid were announced for September 30, 2026, Al Dhafra for December 30, 2026 and Sharjah for March 30, 2027. Verify the current network again before booking. Both present rail stations require a last-mile plan and are not interchangeable with central bus stations or airports. Save the ticket offline and leave time for app, payment and new-service issues reported by early passengers. For Dubai to Abu Dhabi and other emirate pairs, official intercity buses remain more relevant. Dubai RTA publishes its routes and directs passengers to S'hail for schedules, while Abu Dhabi Mobility publishes E100, E101, E102 and other inter-emirate services. Ajman, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah use their own operators, payment methods and stations. There is no single nationwide bus-booking app worth installing. Check the official operator for the exact route, confirm the accepted card or cash before boarding, and avoid a tight airport connection. A domestic flight can make more sense for a distant route when ground transport and station transfers are included.

Pro tip: Confirm that your route is operating now, not only announced. Plan transport at both stations and save the issued ticket offline.
