Tirana International Airport says its official taxi trip to central Tirana takes about 20 to 25 minutes and costs roughly 2,200 lek one way, depending on traffic. Treat that as a current benchmark, then compare the app quote for your actual destination.1
The official operator, Auto Holiday Albania, runs 24 hours and uses yellow cars carrying both the operator and airport logos. Those cars wait in front of the terminal and at its pickup area. An app driver may give a different meeting point outside the immediate rank, so follow the confirmed instructions instead of an arrivals solicitor.1
Patoko advertises international card and cash options. VrapOn's August 2026 terms allow cash, debit card, credit card and, where offered, wallets such as Apple Pay or Google Pay. Those terms also say the price shown before confirmation can be an estimate unless it is expressly marked fixed. Check both the payment method and fare type on the accepted booking.589
Recent reports describe cards failing, settings reverting to cash and drivers proposing poor euro conversions. Those are failure modes, not official policy. Carry lek, confirm the total before moving and don't let a payment problem become an unrecorded new fare.101112
Match the registration, driver and vehicle to the app before boarding. Ignore unsolicited cars at airports, bus stations and busy pickup streets. If booking without an app, use a reputable company's official number and confirm the fare or meter rule before the car moves.210
If the app driver asks you to cancel, decide whether you still need the ride. Do not cancel and then continue privately. Rebooking costs time; losing the route, receipt and support record costs the protections you opened the app to get.
Supply becomes less predictable in small towns, remote beaches and mountain areas. Before leaving Tirana, Sarandë or another larger base, ask whether the same driver will return, what waiting costs and how you will contact them without data.
For a fixed airport departure, write down the pickup time, full price, payment currency, luggage and cancellation contact. A scheduled request is useful, but reconfirm it the evening before. The backup should be a hotel or licensed company, not a stranger found after the car fails to appear.
Use the official airport taxi, ask the hotel to call a licensed local company, or contact a reputable operator through its published number. Agree the fare in lek or insist on the meter before moving. For a remote destination, settle the return before leaving town.
