Transit Apps in Bolivia

Bolivia has no single national transit app. In La Paz and El Alto, Mi Teleférico is the easiest major system for a visitor to understand. The official Yala app creates a virtual fare card, shows balances and trip costs, and now advertises automatic activation without visiting a ticket office. Android uses NFC and iPhone uses an in-app QR for gate entry. Its low iOS rating and account setup still make it optional rather than mandatory; a station ticket remains the simpler fallback for an occasional ride. Use the official line map and confirm operating notices at the station. La Paz Bus publishes PumaKatari and ChikiTiti routes, approximate bus arrivals, fares and service information in its own app and website, but current store links are not consistently discoverable, so Bento should not direct travelers to an uncertain listing. Cash fares remain available. Informal minibuses and trufis make up much of urban transport and may use windshield route signs instead of complete online schedules. Ask the driver or accommodation, keep small boliviano notes and confirm the direction before boarding. In Cochabamba, Trufi is genuinely useful: its current app maps more than 625 bus, micro and shared-taxi routes, works offline and supports several visitor languages. It is not a Bolivia-wide planner. Recent reviews disagree about the redesigned route display, so verify the vehicle's sign and direction rather than treating the route line as live tracking. Keep valuables out of exterior pockets and hold bags in front on crowded vehicles.
