Costa Rica has three active delivery apps, but none should be called nationwide from a logo or marketing sentence. Uber Eats has the clearest broad location evidence; PedidosYa and DiDi Food remain worthwhile address-level comparisons.
Start with Uber Eats if your account already works, then compare PedidosYa at the same pin. In San José, DiDi Food adds a useful third option. At a beach town, mountain lodge or spread-out rental, verify the exact address before choosing a menu and ask the property for a direct-delivery fallback. Include a landmark and the entrance a courier can actually reach.

Uber Eats publishes the strongest public footprint. Coverage is still pin-specific. Its Costa Rica directory names many localities across Alajuela, Cartago, Guanacaste, Heredia, Puntarenas and San José rather than only the capital and Liberia. That is evidence of broad reach, not blanket access to every road. Restaurant and courier availability change when the pin moves a few kilometres.2
DiDi Food's consumer page uses expansive national language, yet its current restaurant explorer visibly leads to San José. Treat it as a live address test rather than a countrywide promise. PedidosYa supplied a clearer March 2026 snapshot: 13 cities across all seven provinces and more than 4,000 merchants. That is meaningful reach, not proof that every beach, mountain road or rural address is served.41
The entrance matters. Place the map pin on the public gate, then write the hotel, condominium or rental name and a landmark visible from the road. A descriptive address can be perfectly normal and still confuse a courier who approaches from another direction. If there is a guardhouse, steep private drive or beach access road, explain where the handoff must happen.2
Keep WhatsApp or the registered phone available and expect Spanish. Ask reception whether it accepts outside delivery and meet in the lobby when required. Do not send a driver through a restricted gate or share a reusable property code. At an isolated villa, a well-lit public meeting point may be safer for both sides.3
DiDi publishes several payment methods, while its Shop terms leave the available choice to the participating store. The final payment screen determines what you can use. If an order is marked paid, don't hand over money again because a courier asks. When cash is selected from the start, prepare small colón notes and confirm the amount before the handoff.56
Keep evidence. Compare the total after item pricing, delivery, service, small-order charges and tip. Preserve the order screen and photograph damaged or missing items before contacting support. If the platform shows paid, do not send a separate transfer or make a second card payment to a courier who says the first one failed.53
Uber announced an offer for Delivery Hero in July 2026. Delivery Hero's regional holdings include PedidosYa, but Uber's announcement says completion remains subject to shareholder, regulatory and other conditions. The practical fact today is simple: PedidosYa and Uber Eats are separate apps with separate accounts, inventories and promotions.7
Outside a strong courier zone, call or message the restaurant through its own verified listing. Confirm the menu, total, payment method and recognizable meeting point before ordering. For a serious allergy, speak directly with the kitchen in a shared language; an app category or translated note cannot guarantee safe preparation.3
If all three apps reject the address, ask the host or front desk which nearby restaurant delivers directly, or arrange pickup before dark. In a remote tourism area, combine food collection with the return ride rather than assuming a courier will accept a long unpaved or gated approach.2
Uber Eats has the clearest documented geographic reach. PedidosYa is the strongest broad comparison, and DiDi Food is especially worth checking around San José.
