Uber is the best first install for a foreign visitor because its existing account, English interface and international card normally work without an Ecuadorian ID, bank account or phone number. Locals also use inDrive heavily, especially when its negotiated cash fares undercut Uber, but there is no current public national share that supports calling either an overwhelming winner. Uber supply is strongest in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca and is also present in cities such as Ambato, Manta and Machala. inDrive reaches more secondary-city trips but is commonly cash based, and the driver may counter the passenger's proposed fare. Use exact pickup pins and verify the plate because street addressing can be imprecise. Cabify should be removed from current lists because it ended Ecuador operations in March 2023. Lyft and Bolt do not provide national passenger service. Both Uber and inDrive support English and foreign-number registration. Uber accepts international cards and cash where shown. inDrive payment options vary by city, so a visitor should assume cash unless the app explicitly offers a card method. App availability does not itself settle the legal status of a private driver under Ecuadorian transport rules. DiDi remains a real but limited option: its official Ecuador help page listed Express service only in Quito as of July 2026.
