What to know about Intercity Transport in Israel

Outside Shabbat, holidays and service disruptions, Israel Railways is usually the easiest public-transport option from Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities on the rail network. Use the official flight and railway information close to departure because schedules, terminals and service can change quickly during security events. The official Israel Railways app is helpful for journey planning, station information and live operational notices, but it has current reports of bugs and should not be your only source. Rav-Pass or another approved payment app can validate rail travel; an anonymous Rav-Kav card or station ticket is the physical fallback. Egged and other operators provide intercity buses where rail does not reach. egg can reserve selected Egged routes, including Eilat, but not every intercity bus requires or supports advance reservation. Search by exact stop and date, arrive early and confirm the platform or bay on the operator's official channel. Most rail and regular intercity buses stop from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening, and holiday timetables can begin earlier. Licensed airport taxis operate around the clock when rail is unavailable, at much higher cost. Border crossings to Jordan and Egypt have their own hours, eligibility and reservation rules. Check the relevant Airports Authority page and current government advice before leaving for a crossing. A navigation or booking app cannot confirm that a crossing, road or destination is currently accessible.
