Public transportation apps, curated for travelers visiting Macau.
Bus Traveling System is DSAT's focused official bus app and the best first install for a visitor using public buses. It shows routes, stops and real-time approaching buses in English, Portuguese and Chinese. Recent local reports find its vehicle tracking more dependable than the broader Macao Smart Go app, although neither is infallible. Allow time at complex stops because several platforms with similar names can sit on different sides of a road or inside a terminal. Macao Smart Go combines walking, bus, taxi, LRT, parking and tourism information. It can be a useful second reference, but its low store rating and reports of slow or inaccurate bus information mean it should not replace the focused tracker. Google Maps is not authoritative for Macau bus arrivals. The standard public-bus cash fare is MOP 6 and drivers do not give change. A physical Macau Pass, sold and topped up through local outlets, is convenient for repeated rides and also works directly at LRT gates. Each traveler needs a valid fare. Macau introduced companion QR codes for certain mainland Chinese and Hong Kong versions of WeChat Pay and Alipay in 2026, but an unrelated international account should not be assumed compatible. Ordinary foreign contactless cards do not provide a universal bus tap. For an occasional ride, exact coins may be simpler than setting up a local product. The LRT covers Taipa, Cotai, Seac Pai Van, Hengqin and the Barra connection. Buy a single-journey ticket at the station or use Macau Pass; do not install MPay solely for it. Free hotel and casino shuttles can be useful from ports and resorts, but routes, eligibility and hours change. Confirm directly with the property. During Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above, public transport suspends.
