VPNs and other tools worth installing before you go, curated for travelers visiting Qatar.
Q Weather is the only local utility app worth adding for an ordinary visitor. It is published by Qatar's Meteorology Department under the Civil Aviation Authority, was updated in May 2026 and provides Qatar-specific current conditions, forecasts, weather news and inshore and offshore information. It is especially useful before a desert, beach, boat or long outdoor plan, but no forecast makes extreme heat or poor marine conditions harmless. Check the current official forecast, move strenuous activity away from the hottest hours, carry water, use shade and transport, and recognize confusion, fainting or hot dry skin as reasons to seek urgent help. Call 999 for police, fire or ambulance. Save the number, accommodation, insurer and embassy or consulate details offline; there is no visitor emergency app that replaces the call. As of August 13, 2026, regional security warnings remain separate from weather. Monitor Qatar's authorities, the airport, airline and your own government's advisory for shelter instructions, flight disruption or airspace changes. If authorities advise sheltering, go inside a secure building and stay away from windows and exterior walls. Do not approach drone or missile debris or photograph security activity. Metrash is primarily a resident government service tied to Qatar identity and should not be installed as a general tourist utility. For a medical emergency, app chat and social media are not substitutes for 999 and the travel insurer's assistance line.
