It can be a useful accessibility or communication backup, but a normal emergency call to 112 remains the primary action. SafeTravel currently advises calling +354 599 0112 if 112 cannot connect, has poor audio or disconnects. Save that fallback offline. Phone reception is not guaranteed in remote terrain. Carry power, suitable clothing, food and a plan that works without data. Follow evacuation, volcanic gas, beach, avalanche and road-closure instructions immediately. Never enter closed ground, newly solidified lava, a glacier or a dangerous shoreline because an app map appears clear.
