What to know about Transit in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek municipal transport changed to a broader cashless fare system on July 1, 2026. The city says passengers can use a Tulpar transport card, Visa, Mastercard, Elkart, supported QR services or a single electronic ticket bought from a Pay24 terminal. A Pay24 ticket carries a QR code that must be presented to the validator on the vehicle. Tulpar also allows up to four free municipal transfers within 60 minutes after the first validation. Do not assume every foreign contactless card will work reliably. Keep a physical Tulpar card or a Pay24 ticket as the practical fallback, validate every ride and retain the card, receipt or QR until the trip is complete. Current inspections can issue a 1,000 som penalty when valid proof cannot be shown. 2GIS and Yandex Maps are more useful for route planning than installing a dedicated fare app. Tulpar's consumer app has weak store reviews, and Bishkek's My City app can request a 14-digit Kyrgyz personal identification number for registration while user reports describe unreliable live tracking. Neither is a good universal arrival recommendation. Outside Bishkek, fare media and route information vary by city. Check the vehicle, stop notices or local authority instead of transferring Bishkek rules to Osh, Karakol or another municipality. Exact fares and accepted methods can change, so verify recent posted information locally.
