Yandex Go, offline maps, som cash, and a real plan beyond Bishkek

9 apps5 essentialCentral AsiaLast updated: August 2026

Set up Yandex Go before departure and keep cash as a payment fallback because recent travelers report that foreign cards can work inconsistently. inDrive is useful for comparing bids and some longer rides, but agree the complete fare before accepting and keep the booking in the app. Use 2GIS for city entrances, businesses and public transport, plus Organic Maps with the full country downloaded for offline road and trail orientation. Neither app makes a remote mountain route safe: confirm current conditions, use a reputable guide where appropriate, share a route plan and do not depend on mobile coverage. Bishkek municipal transport became cashless on July 1, 2026. Tulpar, Visa, Mastercard, Elkart, supported QR methods and Pay24 single tickets are accepted, but a foreign bank card can still fail, so buy a physical Tulpar card or Pay24 ticket and retain proof of payment. There is no dependable nationwide app for marshrutkas, buses or trains. Check official station information, verify the current terminal and buy at the ticket office when a local phone number or foreign card blocks online booking. Cards are useful in cities, but carry Kyrgyz som for bazaars, small businesses, taxis, guesthouses and travel outside major centers. MBank and O!Dengi are resident banking products, not sensible arrival downloads for a short visit. Entry and registration rules depend on nationality. Use only the official eVisa portal and confirm whether the hotel or host must register the stay within five working days. Call 112 for an emergency, with 101 for fire, 102 for police and 103 for ambulance. Remote response can be slow, so mountain travel needs an offline plan and suitable safety equipment.
