Mobilly is the most useful app for an eligible visitor: it sells Riga code tickets, shows schedules and a live map, and also handles parking and some regional tickets. The current app accepts phone numbers from the EU, UK, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Ukraine. It is therefore not a dependable option for a visitor whose number comes from the Americas, Asia, Africa, Oceania or another unsupported country. Test registration and payment before the first ride.
Code tickets require the phone to be online. Buy the ticket before boarding, then scan the vehicle QR code or enter its five-digit identifier as soon as you enter. Register again when changing vehicle if the selected product requires it, and keep the active ticket open for inspection. A dead phone or an unregistered ticket can lead to a fine even when a ticket was purchased.
If the app, number or payment method is unsuitable, buy a physical yellow e-ticket at an authorized outlet such as Narvesen and validate it on every boarding. The airport Visitor Centre sells city bus tickets, and bus 22 links RIX with central Riga. Keep a physical ticket as a useful fallback during an app outage. Riga products do not automatically cover another Latvian city's local transport.
Check that city's operator, ticket rules and validation method rather than assuming Mobilly or a Riga pass applies. Use the official stop display and service notice for a critical airport or rail connection.
