What to know about Transit in Myanmar

Yangon Bus Service is the only urban network where a specialist route app can materially help a short-term visitor. Yangon Bus: Easy YBS is a current independent Android app with route search, stops and community information. It is not the transport authority, and its live data or suggested transfer can be incomplete. Confirm the route number, direction and last operating time with hotel staff or at the stop before boarding. Google Maps can provide a second orientation check but should not be treated as a live operations source. YPS cards and QR payment cover many YBS lines, yet cash, card readers and exact acceptance can vary by vehicle. Ask locally how to pay before boarding and carry small kyat. The MPyps+ app is designed around local YPS registration and adds little for an ordinary short visit, so it is not a recommended install. Buses may be crowded, poorly maintained and vulnerable to pickpocketing. Keep the phone and wallet secured, avoid displaying a passport, and do not board if the vehicle or surrounding situation feels unsafe. Route changes, fuel shortages, checkpoints and communications outages can make an otherwise valid app result unusable. A 2026 local report says the former airport bus no longer enters the terminal directly, illustrating why old airport guidance is unreliable. For luggage, a time-critical connection, late travel or an unfamiliar interchange, use a verified taxi or hotel transfer instead. Do not take public transport near demonstrations or security incidents, and do not assume a normal bus route proves that the surrounding township is safe for visitors.

Pro tip: Use it only in Yangon and confirm the route locally. It is not an official live-operations source, and there is no verified iOS version.
