The most important new traveler workflow is customs, not a generic booking app. Since 1 July 2026, every person entering or leaving South Africa by air, land, sea, or rail must submit the South African Revenue Service online traveler declaration before travel, except in limited cases where systems, connectivity, or another reasonable barrier justify assisted or paper processing. A declaration is required for each traveler, including children and infants. Use either the SARS web system or the official SA Traveller Management System app, submit accurate passport, journey, companion, goods, and currency information, then save or print the emailed confirmation and follow its port instructions. The app is useful but not mandatory because the official website performs the same task. This customs declaration is separate from immigration permission. Check the Department of Home Affairs rules for your own passport. The new ETA remains limited to eligible travelers and currently applies to short-stay visitors from a limited group of visa-required countries, with arrival restrictions stated on the official portal. Do not infer eligibility from another nationality's experience or pay an unofficial agent. A passport generally needs at least 30 days beyond the planned departure and two blank pages, but verify the rule that applies to your document. Travelers arriving from, or with a qualifying long transit through, a yellow-fever-risk country may need the certificate. Travelers with children have additional document rules. For national parks, book accommodation and activities directly through SANParks or a verified operator and compare conservation fees by residency class. Current safety advice says to avoid Kruger's Numbi gate route and use the recommended Addo approach from Gqeberha via the N2 and Colchester. A booking does not make the road, trail, or gate safe, so recheck SANParks notices and lodge instructions shortly before travel.
