The old page's blanket warning about scheduled national power cuts is out of date. Eskom reported on 8 July 2026 that South Africa had passed 413 consecutive days without national load shedding, and its winter outlook through 31 August expected none under the planned scenarios. That does not mean every socket is reliable. Municipal faults, damaged infrastructure, ordinary outages, water interruptions, internet failures, and targeted load reduction still affect particular neighborhoods. Eskom says remaining load-reduction areas are concentrated mainly in Gauteng and then KwaZulu-Natal, while five provinces were free of it by July. ESP, formerly known mainly as EskomSePush, remains the best optional local-status app. Its July 2026 store listing includes electricity, water, and internet reports plus neighborhood discussions. It is an independent community product, not an Eskom or municipal authority, and its data can be wrong or incomplete. Save the exact suburb for each accommodation, check the current status shortly before arrival, and confirm a serious outage with the host or municipality. Ask whether the property has backup power for Wi-Fi, lifts, gates, medical equipment, and water pumps. Keep a power bank charged, but do not tell every traveler that national load shedding is underway or that ESP is essential for a short hotel stay. It is most valuable for an apartment, remote-work stay, multi-city trip, or location with recurring local faults.
