It combines place search, walking, driving and public transport with local opening hours, reviews and entrance details that global maps still miss. The South Korean government conditionally approved Google's export of detailed map data on February 27, 2026, but that decision began a technical and security process rather than instantly making full Google Maps routing available. Current August 2026 travelers still report incomplete walking and driving guidance, so Google Maps should not be the primary route planner yet. KakaoMap is the useful second map.
It can find a business or route that Naver misses and is popular locally, but its English experience and foreign account features are less consistent. Set both apps to English, then save the accommodation and important stations before leaving Wi-Fi. Search results are strongest with the exact Korean name or Hangul address. Copy that text from the accommodation, attraction, CATCHTABLE listing or official website rather than trusting a romanized spelling.
Confirm the correct branch because chains and similarly named businesses are common. A map pin can point to a building while the entrance is in an alley, underground arcade or another floor. Check recent photos and the Korean road address. Downloading a map does not preserve live transit arrivals, reviews or every routing feature.
Screenshot the Korean destination and keep it ready for a taxi driver. On Jeju and in rural areas, verify the last bus and return plan because an available outbound route does not guarantee an evening service back.
