It uses Kakao Mobility's Korean taxi network but supports an overseas phone number, email, Google or Apple sign-in, international cards and an English interface. It also translates chat with drivers. The ordinary Kakao T app remains the local default, but recent 2026 users report Korean identity and payment checks during setup, and Kakao now directs foreign visitors toward k.ride. There is no reason to install both for a normal trip.
k.ride may add a service fee and its visitor product list may not always expose the cheapest local taxi category, so compare the final estimate. Uber is the familiar backup for someone with an existing account and saved card. In Korea it dispatches licensed taxis, not private UberX drivers. Uber's current official pages explicitly document Seoul and Busan; live supply can be thinner elsewhere.
TABA is a legitimate Seoul-only fallback built for international tourists. It supports foreign registration and payment, but it uses a smaller ONDA taxi pool and should not be treated as a nationwide app. At Incheon or Gimpo Airport, follow the assigned pickup zone in the app and reject anyone soliciting an off-app ride. Match the plate, vehicle and driver before entering.
Metered fare, toll and late-night or area surcharges can be separate. Since January 2026, Seoul has expanded English receipts and QR complaint tools for foreign passengers. Outside major cities, on Jeju at busy times or when carrying large luggage, app supply is not guaranteed. Ask the hotel to arrange a licensed taxi or prebook a verified transfer for a flight, early train or remote return.
Keep the booking and payment inside the app and call 112 if immediate police help is needed.
