Ride Hailing Apps in South Korea

Kakao T is the overwhelming local taxi platform, with more than 90 percent of the taxi-app market in the latest competition record covering the period before 2024. It dispatches licensed taxis nationwide, but the ordinary Kakao T account can be difficult without a Korean number and local card. k.ride is Kakao Mobility's foreign-visitor app and is the recommended install because it supports overseas numbers, English and international cards. It operates in Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, Jeju City and other Kakao T coverage areas. Uber Taxi is the renamed UT service from February 29, 2024 and dispatches licensed taxis, not private UberX drivers. Uber completed its acquisition of the former TMAP joint venture in December 2024. TABA is a Seoul-focused tourist taxi app with English and international payment support. Kakao T General is usually cheaper than k.ride's tourist-oriented products and premium options as of mid-2026, but k.ride removes the phone and card barrier. Uber Taxi prices follow Korean taxi products and can be similar to Kakao T. Incheon Airport to central Seoul commonly costs about KRW 60,000 to KRW 100,000 before tolls as of mid-2026. No Korean ID or bank account is required for k.ride, Uber Taxi or TABA. A foreign number and card are supported. Lyft, Grab, Bolt and DiDi do not operate ordinary consumer ride services.
