Use FREENOW for the clearest licensed-taxi comparison, Cabify when its local Taxi or VTC category suits the trip and Uber only after the exact city shows a live product. At an airport, inspect the official rank before walking to a separate app-car zone.

Cabify currently lists 12 Spanish city markets, while FREENOW's January 2026 fare page names 12 taxi areas. Uber publishes a much longer municipality list, but one listing can cover a regional service area with different products and weak supply at its edges.589
Enter both ends of the real journey. A logo on a country page doesn't promise an available car, airport permission or the same category seen in Madrid. For an island or small town, the hotel or signed local queue can be more current than any national roundup.81213
FREENOW says Spanish taxi prices follow each municipality's rules. Its current fare page lists standard taximeter trips and regulated fixed-price taxi products in Madrid and Barcelona. The metered estimate can rise with traffic, trip duration and other local factors.9
FREENOW's fixed-price products do not permit destination changes or intermediate stops. If the plan may change, choose the meter and accept that traffic and local supplements can affect the result. Read the product card before the driver arrives.9
Cabify provides a pre-trip estimate based on factors such as distance, duration, demand and tolls. Its Taxi category finishes on the physical taximeter under city rules. Waiting, unplanned stops, destination changes and other eligible extras can alter the final price.11
As checked on 21 August 2026, FREENOW lists a €0.80 service fee for an immediate taxi paid in the app and €2.20 for an advance booking made up to 96 hours ahead. The fee page names Madrid, Valencia, Málaga, Sevilla, Asturias, Alicante, Castellón, Elche and Zaragoza as the applicable markets. Direct payment to the driver is excluded, and taxi fares, airport supplements, tolls and tips remain separate.10
Madrid Airport has signed taxi ranks outside every arrivals area. Official taxis are white with a red stripe. The regulated fare between the airport and an address inside the M-30 is €33, runs all day and does not accept a supplement. VTC pickups use separate points in car parks P1, P2 and P4, so compare the live app quote with that taxi rule before walking away from arrivals.14
At Barcelona-El Prat, the official taxi is black and yellow, with T1's rank on the ground floor. Aena directs Uber, Cabify and Bolt customers to designated app-car areas at T1 and T2. Follow the terminal and product shown after booking.23
Match the driver, registration, vehicle and category before boarding. Don't cancel a protected app trip because a driver wants to continue in WhatsApp or take an unrecorded payment. Save the quote and receipt until any adjustment or deposit clears.
For a child seat, wheelchair, several large bags, a pre-dawn flight or a remote finca, contact a licensed operator early and obtain written confirmation. If an app request remains unaccepted, use the official queue or the accommodation's published local dispatcher.1213
Join the official taxi rank, call the licensed local radio-taxi cooperative or ask the accommodation to confirm a suitable vehicle. Spain's urban public transport often removes the need for a car entirely. For a critical departure, keep the reservation details and a second timed route.
Freenow is the best first check for a licensed taxi, with Cabify useful for taxis or private-hire cars in major destinations. Uber is a familiar comparison, but no app is the national winner.
Uber operates in selected Spanish cities and its available vehicle types vary. Bolt is not a reliable nationwide assumption; city rules, local taxi apps and actual supply matter more than the brand name.
In-app card payment is common, but a metered taxi may still follow local fare rules and supplements. Confirm the selected service, payment method and whether the quote is fixed before the car moves.
Follow official airport or station signs and the pickup point shown in the app. Ignore unmarked vehicles offered in arrivals, and prebook an appropriate licensed service when a flight depends on it.
