Croatia

City transport, island ferries and road tools that prevent costly mistakes

Croatia uses the euro, and most short-stay visitors do not need a local payment app.

What to know before you go to Croatia

Bring Visa or Mastercard, a backup card and some euro cash for small businesses, markets, beach facilities and occasional cash-only venues. Uber and Bolt are the useful ride apps, but live availability varies by city, season and time. Use the pickup pin, compare both quotes and leave extra time for airports because a scheduled request does not guarantee that a driver will accept it. Bolt Food stopped taking Croatian orders on October 6, 2025, so Wolt and Glovo are the current delivery choices.

Local public transport is city-specific: Moj ZET sells Zagreb tickets, Promet Split covers Split and RCC Mobility sells Rijeka-area tickets. Intercity and island travel is fragmented across operators. Jadrolinija is essential for many ferries, but it does not include TP Line or Krilo sailings. A ticket for a non-reservation car ferry does not guarantee space on the selected departure, so read the ticket and arrive early in summer.

Drivers should use HAK for live road, border and ferry-terminal conditions and Bmove where supported parking is needed. The emergency number is 112, and national SRUUK warnings arrive automatically without an app. Croatia was declared free of landmines early in 2026, making older blanket mine warnings obsolete, although hikers should still use marked routes and current local advice.
