Greece

Freenow for taxis, Wolt for delivery, and careful planning between islands

11 apps5 essentialEuropeLast updated: August 2026

Greece combines strong city transport with fragmented island and regional networks. Install Freenow if you expect to use taxis and Wolt if delivery would help, but do not treat any app as nationwide coverage. Uber, Freenow and Bolt connect riders with licensed professional taxis in Greece rather than ordinary private drivers. On a small island or after a late ferry, arrange a transfer with the accommodation when app supply is uncertain. Greece is in the Schengen Area. Check visa requirements through the Greek Foreign Ministry and current border-system information through the European Union. The Entry/Exit System is fully operational for covered non-EU short-stay travelers as of April 2026. ETIAS is expected later in 2026, but its exact launch date has not been announced, so do not pay an unofficial authorization site. Cards are useful at nearly all hotels, restaurants and shops, but keep euro cash for taxis, kiosks, small island businesses and technical failures. Ferry departures can change because of weather, strikes or operational disruption. Check the operator and port, not only an aggregator. Keep emergency alerts enabled and follow every 112 instruction during wildfire, flood or severe-weather events.
