Uber lists service across Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung and many other populated areas, but a city on its coverage page does not guarantee a nearby car in a rural district. Bolt entered Taiwan in October 2025 and currently lists only Keelung, Taipei and Taoyuan. Its Taiwan service dispatches licensed taxis, so it is a useful northern price and availability comparison rather than an island-wide replacement. The local 55688 Taiwan Taxi network has broader reach and an English interface, but its account flow has rejected foreign phone numbers for some travelers.
Cash remains the safest payment fallback. yoxi also has an English interface and cash payment, although supply can be thinner. LINE GO works inside LINE without another download, but it requires a verified phone number. Tripool is different from all of these: it is an English-language, prebooked private transfer service for airports, cross-city trips and places where on-demand supply is uncertain.
At airports, use the signed taxi queue or designated app pickup point and ignore unsolicited ride offers. For ordinary street taxis, carry the destination in Traditional Chinese, confirm that the meter is running and request a receipt.
