Transit Apps in Taiwan

Use Google Maps for route planning and Bus+ for live bus checks. Bus+ has English and Traditional Chinese interfaces, covers bus routes across Taiwan and also shows public-bike availability and metro maps. Its data comes from transport authorities, but arrival times are still predictions affected by traffic and vehicles that have not begun a trip. A physical EasyCard or iPASS remains the simplest universal tool for urban transport. Buy and cash-top-up the card after arrival, and tap as directed at both ends of a metro trip. On buses, watch the reader and local instructions because boarding and alighting validation determines the fare. Since July 1, 2026, Taipei Metro accepts international contactless bank cards and supported phone wallets across the whole system. This is convenient for a Taipei-only trip, but it does not cover every bus and should not be generalized to all Taiwanese transport. Taipei Metro Go is optional for official Taipei Metro disruptions, station exits, first and last trains, crowding and multilingual information. Its 2026 QR single-ticket feature is less important for visitors now that bank-card gates are live. The official YouBike app shows station and bike availability. A visitor without a Taiwanese number can use its single-rental credit-card flow, but the iOS interface is Traditional Chinese only and 2026 travelers report network errors with some regional eSIM routes. Confirm the return on the bike display and in the app before leaving it.
