A short-term traveler should not open a Tanzanian bank account or install a resident banking app. The useful work happens before departure: tell your issuers about travel if required, confirm Tanzania is enabled, check foreign-purchase and ATM fees, understand how 3D Secure approvals arrive, and save the international loss and fraud numbers outside the wallet. Carry cards from two issuers or networks in separate places. ATMs in major cities commonly dispense TZS from foreign debit cards, but they may be empty or out of service, and election unrest has previously caused cash shortages. Prefer a machine inside an open bank branch, inspect the slot, shield the keypad, cancel if anyone offers help, and leave before counting cash.
