Offline maps can provide basic driving guidance but do not preserve every live closure, traffic condition, transit departure, walking detail, or business update. In Istanbul, large interchanges can have distant exits and separate municipal and ministry-operated lines, so compare the station name, line code, direction, and exit number with official signs. Ask a host for a dropped pin when an address is informal or a hotel entrance sits on a pedestrian street. For driving, review the full route before leaving a main road. Official advice warns about poor driving standards, roadworks, motorcycles, and severe consequences for traffic violations. Do not follow a shortcut onto a visibly unsuitable road, drive through floodwater, or rely on an old route during wildfire, snow, earthquake, or demonstration disruption. Keep the phone secured and stop legally before changing directions. Google Maps reviews help with discovery but do not prove that a business is open or legitimate. Verify time-critical destinations directly. Save written Turkish addresses and a nearby landmark in case a driver cannot use the shared pin. A second navigation app is not essential for most visitors; the meaningful backup is an offline area, screenshots of the route, official transport maps, and the ability to ask staff.
