Uber and BiTaksi are the two taxi apps worth considering. Both dispatch licensed taxis, so the taximeter remains the legal basis for the fare and the amount shown before pickup is not a guaranteed fixed price. Uber is the easiest first choice for someone with an existing international account and card. Its current directory lists service in dozens of Turkish cities, but actual supply varies by neighborhood, hour, resort season, and airport pickup rules. BiTaksi is a useful local backup with English support and service in 34 cities. Its official FAQ says stored foreign Visa, Mastercard, and American Express cards are accepted, while its separate phone-based BiTaksiPOS pages have published conflicting answers about foreign contactless cards. Add and test a card inside the passenger app before relying on it, and carry cash. Recent visitors report failed verification, card declines, cancellations, meter disputes, and drivers entering an inflated final amount in both apps. Before moving, match the plate and driver, make sure the meter is running, follow the route, photograph the meter if a dispute develops, and compare the final meter with the app confirmation screen. Do not accept a request to cancel the trip and continue privately. At an airport, follow the official app pickup point or taxi rank rather than an unsolicited driver. Turkey's tax authority has set a national rollout deadline of 1 September 2026 for approved taxi fiscal devices and card acceptance, but that future mandate should not be treated as proof that every taxi can take a foreign card today. Remove iTaksi, Martı TAG, and inDrive from the shortlist because they add city limits, legal or onboarding uncertainty, or cash and meter friction without improving the visitor fallback plan.
