Public transportation apps, curated for travelers visiting Uzbekistan.
Use Yandex Maps to plan Tashkent metro and bus journeys. It publishes route, stop, schedule and live vehicle information where the local feed supports it. 2GIS can provide another detailed urban view, but one route planner is normally enough. ATTO is the official fare system and app. The app manages a physical or virtual transport card, balance and passes, and its current App Store listing supports English, Russian and Uzbek. A short-stay visitor may not need it. Current 2026 travelers report that contactless foreign Visa, Mastercard or UnionPay cards can be tapped directly at Tashkent metro and bus validators, which is simpler when it works. Carry a physical card rather than relying only on a phone wallet, and keep a fallback because individual cards can fail. Cash is no longer accepted directly on ordinary public transport. A physical ATTO card can be bought and topped up at UzPost, and current reports say ordinary cards do not require visitor identification. Metro sales offices have changed, so do not assume every station sells cards. ATTO's official documents also provide QR-ticket and ticket-office options, but availability differs by location. The app needs phone registration. Virtual-card payment depends on the phone and method, and the official offer notes that iPhone NFC payment is not supported in the same way as Android. Do not spend arrival time building a virtual card unless direct contactless payment fails or a multi-day pass genuinely saves effort. Yandex Maps and ATTO do not cover every marshrutka or guarantee that a vehicle is running. Check the route number and direction before boarding, allow extra time and keep belongings secured in crowds. Outside Tashkent, local payment implementation varies, so ask the accommodation or driver what passengers currently tap or buy.
