Viber and WhatsApp are both useful in Bulgaria. Viber has an unusually strong local position and is commonly used by Bulgarian residents, small businesses and service providers. WhatsApp is also active and currently ranks alongside Viber among Bulgaria's leading communication downloads, but download rank is not the same as population usage share. There is no defensible current evidence that every hotel, guide or driver prefers one channel, so ask the actual contact instead of assuming. Keep Viber if a host, taxi company or tour operator provides a Viber number. Keep WhatsApp for international accommodation, guides and other travelers. Activate both before departure while the original phone number can receive a verification code. Changing to a Bulgarian SIM does not require changing the account number. Save the accommodation, transport operator and insurer in advance, and send the booking name, pickup point and map pin rather than unnecessary passport data. Treat an unexpected request to move a booking payment to chat, bank transfer, QR code or a new card link as suspicious. Verify it through the original booking platform or a separately published phone number. Never share a registration code, PIN, card security code or screen-control access.
