Bulgaria does not have Uber or Bolt passenger rides as of August 2026. Use licensed taxi dispatch apps instead. TaxiMe, Yellow Taxi 91119 and OK Taxi are the relevant Sofia choices. TaxiMe can place an order without creating a profile, shows an estimated fare and supports cash or card. Yellow supports in-app card payment, a car terminal and cash. It is also the official taxi partner at Sofia Airport, where travelers should use the Yellow desk, signed rank or official app. OK Taxi is a useful third Sofia fleet, especially when the first two have no nearby car. Registration or card setup can fail for some foreign users, so test at least two apps before a late arrival and keep euro cash. Selecting card does not guarantee that every car terminal will work. In Plovdiv, Eko Taxi Plovdiv is the established local option and Taxi One App is a strong current alternative with cash or card selection. Neither is a national network. Other cities depend on local companies and phone dispatch. Verify the exact company, plate and vehicle before entering. Similar-looking taxi branding, airport solicitors and cars waiting around stations can charge much higher metered tariffs. Confirm the displayed tariff and insist on the meter. For a time-critical airport trip, schedule through an official app or accommodation and leave a fallback. Bolt's localized Bulgarian page currently lists food delivery and micromobility in Sofia, not passenger rides, despite generic English page text that can suggest otherwise.
