A VTC must be booked in advance. It cannot cruise for street hails or wait at a taxi rank. The confirmation should identify the pickup, time, registration plate, vehicle and driver. At an airport, a booked VTC can wait at the designated meeting place for a maximum of one hour.1
A licensed taxi can use ranks and accept a street hail. Its ordinary fare is regulated and metered, while a VTC price is freely set and may be fixed or based on time and distance. Check which category the app has assigned before comparing prices.12
Uber's official directory spans cities across metropolitan France, and Bolt lists dozens of French locations. Neither directory proves that a driver will be near a rural property, station or late-night pickup. Enter the real addresses and compare the live result before you cancel a train or local taxi plan.45

France's consumer authority sets four maximum flat fares for direct licensed-taxi trips between Paris and CDG or Orly. The airport and the bank of the Seine determine which rate applies. One flat fare covers the vehicle rather than each passenger. A freely priced VTC quote from Uber or Bolt falls outside those taxi caps.28
Paris permits a €4 immediate booking supplement or €7 advance booking supplement, including when an airport flat fare applies. There is no Paris luggage supplement. A fifth and later passenger can add €5.50 each.28
At arrivals, an official taxi is found at the signed rank and a VTC is found through its confirmed app pickup. French consumer authorities warn that solicitation is prohibited and specifically tell passengers not to accept a person presenting an unbooked ride as a VTC. Do not follow them to a car, even if they mention Uber, Bolt or a fixed price.13
G7 accepts immediate requests and reservations up to 30 days ahead. It can be more useful than repeatedly refreshing VTC apps for an early departure, a large vehicle or a specified service. Compare the metered or airport fare plus the booking supplement with the complete Uber and Bolt quotes.68
If you settle the fare in the vehicle, keep the meter visible and ask for the receipt. French taxis must carry a functioning card terminal. If a driver claims electronic payment is impossible, keep your card details out of improvised links and preserve the documented booking.72
After every VTC trip, the account receives an email summary with a downloadable invoice. For taxis, a printed note is mandatory when the fare is €25 or more and must be provided below €25 if you request it. Save the booking confirmation, plate and receipt until any lost-property or price dispute is resolved.12
