Banking and financial services, curated for travelers visiting Ghana.
A short-stay traveler does not need a Ghanaian bank app. The useful setup is cash in Ghanaian cedis, a Visa card that has been enabled for travel and a second card kept separately. Official visitor guidance says cards are accepted by airlines, leading hotels and major supermarkets, while current travel advice notes that ATMs are common in larger towns but can be scarce in rural areas. Mastercard acceptance may be less widespread than Visa, so do not make one network the only plan. Use an ATM attached to a bank or reputable hotel, inspect it before inserting the card and keep cash for smaller merchants, transport and places outside major cities. Exchange foreign cash only at an authorized bank or foreign-exchange bureau and count it before leaving. The Bank of Ghana publishes daily interbank reference rates that can provide a rough comparison, although a retail bank, card or bureau will apply its own spread and fees. Check the ATM's displayed currency and conversion terms before accepting the withdrawal. Notify the issuer if required, know the card-freeze process and keep an emergency funding route outside the wallet. Wise or another remittance app may be useful only if the traveler already uses it and has a known eligible recipient. It is not a substitute for cash, cards or local mobile-money access, and it should not be advertised as a required Ghana download.
