What to know about Transit in Montenegro

Montenegro has no single national app for local buses, and information quality varies sharply by municipality. In Podgorica, the city now publishes routes, stops, timetables and available live bus positions through Google Maps, making it the most practical visitor tool. This is more current advice than relying on the old Klik Bus mobile app, whose iOS listing is dated and whose Android listing is no longer a dependable recommendation. Even in Podgorica, allow extra time and verify the stop direction because live positions depend on the operator feed. On the coast, municipal and operator information is fragmented, stops may have limited signage and seasonal traffic can disrupt the timetable. Kotor publishes local bus information through the municipality, but do not assume a route shown in a general map is currently running at the displayed minute. Check a posted timetable, municipal page or operator notice and ask accommodation staff to confirm a critical connection. Carry small euro notes and coins because local buses and station-related charges may require cash. Tell the driver the destination if the fare is unclear, keep the ticket and do not expect a contactless bank card on every vehicle. Podgorica Airport publishes several bus operators from the terminal to the central station, but its linked timetable was valid only through May 2025, so confirm the current service directly before depending on it. Tivat Airport does not list an official public bus connection on its transport page. For either airport, leave a backup budget for a licensed taxi or verified transfer.
